Hemel to Stonecross Trunk Main

November 2021

RML carried out a project for Affinity Water to provide information on the sub-soil conditions at points along a proposed water main route, together with laboratory testing, in order to provide information to assist foundation design and the choice of pipe materials.

A total 10 No. Light Percussion boreholes were drilled across the route for the proposed Trunk Main. Standard Penetration Test (SPT) ‘N’ values were obtained at the regular intervals within the boreholes.

Ground Conditions

According to information published by the British Geological Survey (BGS) the underlying geology comprised Clay-with-Flints overlying Chalk of the Cretaceous Period.

Laboratory testing

Natural Moisture Contents, Atterberg Limits, Quick Undrained Triaxial Compression Tests, Particle Size Distribution, pH and Sulphate Tests, Asbestos Identifications, Chemical Analysis – Soil, Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) tests are the laboratory tests undertaken for this project.
