RML were commissioned to carry out a Site Investigation to provide information on the existing road make-up and underlying sub-soil conditions at this site to assist the Consulting Engineers to establish the load carrying capacity of the ramped concrete entrance road.

Fieldwork

Fieldwork was undertaken in line with British Standards BS 5930:2015+A1:2020. 4 No. Concrete Cores, 4 No. Drive-in-sampler boreholes, MEXE Probe CBR Tests and fast setting reinstatement were undertaken as part of the investigation.

Ground Conditions

According to information published by British Geological Survey (BGS) the underlying geology at the site is shown as being Recent Crayford Silt Member over lying Thanet Sand (Lambeth Group) of the Palaeocene Period overlying Upper Chalk of the Upper Cretaceous Period.

Laboratory Testing

Natural Moisture Contents, Particle Size Distribution, Quick Undrained Triaxial Compression Tests and Unconfined Compression Tests were the Laboratory tests undertaken for the project.
